The process for the election of a Member is the following:
- The Candidate to Charter Member must be proposed by an Organization of his country Member of UPADI or else by three Charter Members from different American countries. The Candidate to Corresponding Member must be proposed by the Organization of his country, a Member of UPADI or a Member of WFEO, or by the Academy of Engineering of that country, or by two Charter Members.
- The nominations may be made by postal or electronic mail and must be signed by the President of the Institution or by the Academicians that are proposing a Candidate.
- The nominations must be received simultaneously by the President and the Secretary of the Academy within the term established by the Board of Directors, generally within the first three months of the year in which the incorporation of new Members will be performed.
- The President and the Secretary will verify if the nominations comply with the requirements of the By Laws. The Secretariat will order the proposals and send them to the Election Committee, 120 days before the date scheduled for the Ceremony of Incorporation.
- The Election Committee will issue, within the next 30 days, a written and based recommendation.
- The Secretariat will send the background information of the accepted proposals to each of the Charter Members of the Academy who will have 10 days to vote. If there is a majority of two thirds for the acceptance of a Candidate, he will be considered elect.
- The President will inform the Elected Candidates who must in turn respond with their acceptance and send the Initial Incorporation Fee. He will also notify the persons or institutions that nominated them.
- The Candidates to Charter Members will personally receive the Diploma and official Medallion that accredit them as Academicians at a Solemn Ceremony of Incorporation at which they must submit an original paper. The Candidates to Corresponding Members shall be invited to participate in this Ceremony but are excepted from the obligation of attending. In this case the Diploma shall be sent to them by mail.
