WILLIAM J. WEPFER

 

 

Mechanical Engineer, Marquette University BSE, 1974.  MS, Stanford University, 1976.    Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison, 1979.    

                                  

Dr. Wepfer’s interests are in thermal systems, heat transfer, and thermodynamics.  His primary research centers on solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) systems.  His research focuses on the analysis of various SOFC systems and their application in the current utility market.  He has also done extensive research in the area of heat and mass transfer phenomena in textile materials.

 

Vice-Provost, Distance Learning and Professional Education and Professor George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology.  Professor, Georgia Institute of Technology, 1993-present.    Lecturer at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; at Marquette University; at Milwaukee School of Engineering.  Engineering consulting and editorial reviewer of technical journals.

22 Refereed publications, such as: “An Experimental Investigation of Liquid Coolant Heat Transfer in a Diesel Engine," 1989;  “Ramp Wave Analysis of the Solid Vapor Heat Pump," 1990; “Prediction of SOFC Power Systems Performance Through Multi-Level Modeling,” 1995; “Online Delivery of the MSME Program from Georgia Tech,”  2001;  and 11 books or chapters, such as:  “First and Second Law Analysis of a Gas-Fired Air-Heater," 1993; "Experiments for Compressibility and Vapor Pressure," 1993.  Also 6 edited proceedings; 8 refereed conference presentations and several publications, presentations and reports. 

 

He received, among others: Ralph R. Teetor Award, 1985 (SAE); Georgia Tech Outstanding Teacher Award, 1988; E. K. Campbell Award, 1989 (ASHRAE); Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America, 1990; American Men and Women of Science, 1994; ASHRAE Atlanta Section, Engineer of the Year in Education, 2001;  ASEE ME Division Ralph Coats Roe Award, 2004.
