B.E. (Electrical Engineering) with first class honours, University of Adelaide, South Australia, 1961.
He served with the National Electricity Board Malaysia until 1980, primarily involved in power system protection. Then, he joined Tenaga Ewbank Preece as a Director and then Managing Director. He was Managing Director of Ewbank Preece joint-venture companies in Australia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand. He retired as CEO, KTA Tenaga Sdn Bhd in 2002. He is a director of UMW Holdings Berhad, the Malaysian parent company of UMW-Toyota Motor Corporation.
Mr. Lee has been active in professional engineering institutions being at various times, President, the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia, Member of the Board of Architects Malaysia, Secretary General, the Federation of Engineering Institutions in South-east Asia and the Pacific (FEISEAP), Chairman and currently Honorary President of Commonwealth Engineers Council (CEC) and President of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations (AFEO). He is the patron of the International Young Professionals Foundation and member of the International Advisory Board of Engineers Without Borders, Canada. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Engineers Against Poverty, U.K. He was the President 2003-2005 of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO).
He is an Honorary Fellow of IEM, the Institution of Electrical Engineers, UK, the Institution of Civil Engineers, UK, the Institution of Engineers, Australia and the Institution of Engineers, Mauritius. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, USA and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Singapore. He is a Foreign Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.
He has written numerous papers and addressed many conferences. He was a contributing author to the World Economic Forum book “ Malaysian Journey: Progress in Diversity”.
Was conferred the Malaysian state awards of DPMP and KMN for services to engineering, and the Honorary Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for his efforts in strengthening people-to-people relations between Malaysia and Australia.
